Lebanese Sumac

Facts

Our Lebanese Sumac is traditionally made and organically farmed. Sumac is an essential spice in Lebanese cuisine, known for its fresh, lemony flavor.

🌿 TASTE: Sumac has a tangy, fruity note that adds a special, slightly tart freshness to dishes. It is often used as a finishing spice to enhance the flavor of salads, meat dishes, and dips.

💪 HEALTH BENEFITS: Sumac is rich in antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory properties. It aids digestion and helps regulate blood sugar levels. With its natural composition and no additives, our Sumac is a healthy addition to your kitchen.

🏺 TRADITIONAL PROCESS: The making of Sumac involves drying and grinding the berries of the sumac plant. The berries are handpicked, dried in the sun, and then ground into a coarse powder. This traditional method preserves the natural flavor and nutrients of the sumac.

🌿 PLANT FACTS AND HISTORY: The sumac plant, Rhus coriaria, grows as a shrub or small tree and is native to the Middle East, particularly Lebanon. Historically, sumac has been used since ancient times, both as a culinary ingredient and for medicinal purposes. The berries are dried and ground into a coarse powder, which is then used to add a distinctive tartness to a variety of dishes.

🌍 FAIR TRADE: We are committed to fair trade by forming direct partnerships with local farmers. Each purchase of our sumac supports fair pay and sustainable livelihoods for the farmers and promotes fair trade practices.

🏺 TRADITION: At Honeydew, we work closely with local farmers who use traditional methods passed down through generations. Every purchase directly supports these small farmers and their communities by providing a marketplace to share their high-quality products with the world.

Product Description

Embrace nature's vibrant elegance in the Lebanese Sumacplant! With its stunning clusters of crimson-red drupes.

  • It’s made from the berry fruit of the Rhus Coriarias herb, grown in parts of the Mediterranean basin. The berries are dried, then ground and sifted to get rid of the bitter inner seed.
  • Sumac brings a tangy, citrusy flavor that's both zesty and slightly fruity. Its taste is reminiscent of lemon or vinegar with a hint of berry-like undertones. Often used as a seasoning, sumac adds a refreshing, sour punch to dishes, imparting a unique, lively zest that elevates salads, meats, and even dips.
  • It pairs very well with lamb! balancing the meaty richness. This spice is also crafted to serve as your finishing touch on many dishes, sprinkle it over some hummus and you will get it!

Hier wird Transparenz großgeschrieben, was genau meinem Geschmack entspricht! :))
